The original painting evolved from an interview with a partially sighted person living with retinitis pigmentosa
 
“At night my vision is worse than in daylight. I mainly just see blurred street lights and car lights.”
 
Retinitis Pigmentosa is an inherited disease that affects both eyes. It causes night blindness and loss of peripheral vision. This is because certain photoreceptors in the retina degenerate and are not able to capture the light rays needed for night and peripheral vision.
