Eastergate Bridge is a stone packhorse bridge in Marsden, near Meltham, Huddersfield. Originally crossing Haigh Clough, it was a crucial link on the wool transport route between Huddersfield and Rochdale. I was recommended a walking route here and sitting on the edge of the Marsden Moors National Trust Estate and accessed via a cobbled path it provided a stunning gateway to the sparse moors in the background.
 
This collection of semi abstract landscape paintings have emerged from walks around Yorkshire. I like to play with both colour and perspective to create an elevated or exaggerated depiction of what I see. I develop a loose colour code to translate the often mundane and dreary greens and browns and switch colours around to create a brighter and more playful interpretation of the landscapes. I try to find the ‘glimmers’ of light and interest and accentuate these in gold or fluorescent hues.
